The future of the Scone Abattoir has been safeguarded, with the federal government approving JBS Australia’s takeover of Primo.
Treasurer Joe Hockey has signed off on the deal, which includes three conditions covering the Hunter Valley abattoir.
Under the deal, JBS has agreed to continue custom service killings of livestock and report back every six months.
Labor’s Joel Fitzgibbon has also welcomed the sale, saying retaining the Scone plant is crucial to both producers and the entire Upper Hunter economy.
