Ballina Shire Council has collected two environmental excellence awards, from Local Government New South Wales.
It beat several Sydney-based councils, to take out the ‘local sustainability’ and ‘water conservation’ categories.
“We don’t have some of the resources of the larger councils in Sydney etcetera. So, to say we’re stoked would probably be an understatement.”
Judges praised Ballina’s broad range of eco-friendly initiatives.
