BOGGABRI MINE PROTEST CONTINUES

On day two of protesting at the Boggabri Coal Mine 84 year old North West man Russ Watts has chained himself to the mine’s front gates.

It comes after two men were arrested yesterday when they tied themselves to the mine’s coal crusher for eight hours.

The pair were charged with trespass and hindering work, which carries a maximum jail sentence of seven years.

They’ll appear before a Narrabri Court later this month.

The demonstrations follow an approval given for an expansion to the mine, which will require areas of the Leard State Forest to be cleared.
