Merewether’s Ryan Callinan is facing a sudden death round after a tough start in Tahiti.

Callinan, a victim of inconsistent conditions, didn’t get on the scoreboard until the last four minutes of his opening heat.

A three, not enough to overtake heat winner Jordy Smith, while fellow rival Dusty Payne remained scoreless.
