NEW OPEN CUT MINE PROPOSED WEST OF SINGLETON

It appears it’s not all bad news, in the wake of the Hunter’s mining downturn, with a new open cut operation proposed about 16-kilometres west of Singleton.
The joint plan seeks to extend existing operations at Wambo, and combine it with a new open cut mine by United Collieries.
The mine would extract 110-million tonnes of coal over 23-years and employ around 500 people.
The community has until September 22 to lodge a submission.
