LAST MINUTE ABSENCE OF MAYOR AND COUNCILLOR CAUSE MEETING TO BE ADANDONED

Coffs Harbour City Council has entered caretaker mode in controversial fashion, with not enough councillors on hand for last night’s meeting to be held.

With only four councillors in the chambers the second last meeting of the current council had to be abandoned.

Councillors Rhoades, Arkan, Cowling and Townley were the only ones to turn up.

Councillors Degens and Sultana had previously been granted leaves of absence, but the Mayor Denise Knight and Councillor Innes only told colleagues of their absences on the day.

It’s expected the agenda will be rolled into the August 25 meeting, the last before the local government elections.
