ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN VISITS PORT MACQUARIE

A state-wide police campaign targeting road safety rolled into Port Macquarie today.

Seven people have been killed on Mid North Coast roads so far this year, one more than the same time last year.

“I’m asking drivers to be responsible, I’m asking families to talk about road safety, making sure we can bring down the toll, a zero toll on the mid north coast for the rest of this year would be fantastic,” Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander John Hartley said.

Police say most of the deaths happened in roadwork zones on the Pacific Highway.

“Fatigue in these areas is a major concern, we’ve been asking people to slow down for a long period of time, but now we’re asking people to plan their trip before they travel through these road work zones,” Mid North Coast Local Area Commander Paul Fehon said.
