POLICEMAN INJURED DURING GOLD COAST DISTURBANCE

A police officer has been knocked unconscious during an altercation on the Gold Coast overnight.

Around 2:30am on Sunday, police responded to reports of a disturbance involving a large group of people on Orchid Avenue in Surfers Paradise.

While attending the scene, a male police officer was knocked to the ground during a scuffle, striking his head and losing consciousness.

The 29-year-old officer was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

A 22-year-old man from Coomera was subsequently charged with serious assault of a police officer causing bodily harm, and obstructing police.

He is expected to appear in court on June 13.
