MISSING LISMORE LIGHT PLANE FINALLY LOCATED

The Australian Navy has located the wreckage of a light aircraft that vanished off the Byron Bay coast three months ago.

The light aircraft left Lismore on Monday March 21, 2016 and was piloted by a 46-year-old man, but failed to return.

The plane was believed to have disappeared from the radar nearly 20 kilometres north-east of Cape Byron.

The plane was not located, despite air and sea searches.

Yesterday a Navy minesweeper was deployed for a four-day search of the area off Byron Bay, the vessel located three large pieces of wreckage in approximately 73 metres of water.

The body of the pilot was not located.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances.
