BANTING INTO ROUND 3 OF RIO PRO

Port Macquarie’s Matt Banting is into the third round of the Rio Pro, producing his best performance of the season against American Kolohe Andino.

Banting posted a two-wave total of 14.76, beating the world number four by just 0.1.

“The first wave, that 7 and a half or whatever I got, I sort of surfed a little bit soft on the first turn and it was just such a good wave, I didn’t want to fall and kind of just put something on the board,” Banting said.

The 21-year-old will now go up against Michel Bourez in his round three heat.
