Mid North News

A $3.5-million dollar waste transfer station has been given the go ahead in the lower Mid North Coast.

The Great Lakes Council funded-project will take over the existing Tuncurry landfill.

Council says the station will benefit both the environment and ratepayers.

“It reduces the state government waste levy, which is very important to us, council pays over a million dollars a year currently to state government, that’s for waste that goes to landfill, so we want to keep whatever we can out of land fill and we’re always looking at new ways and means to do that.”

Newcastle company ATB Morton has been announced as the successful tender to build the facility.

Construction will commence next month, and should be completed by Christmas.
