The Reserve Bank of Australia has unveiled the new $5 banknote that will enter circulation from September this year.
It is the first of a new series of notes that will each feature a different species of Australian wattle and a native bird.
The $5 note features Prickly Moses wattle and the Eastern Spinebill.
The design is still the same size but now includes a distinctive ‘tactile’ feature to help the vision-impaired community distinguish between different denominations of banknotes.
The notes also include new security features to protect against counterfeiting.
