MACQUARIE EDGE OUT CENTRAL TO TAKE TOP SPOT

In Newcastle Rugby League, Macquarie has moved to top spot following a narrow win over Central.

The Butcher Boys opened the scoring thanks to Brett Jarrett.

The Scorpions hit back with a long range effort, as Nathan Cantor and Mathew Hay combined.

Not to be outdone, Cameron Anderson produced a long distance effort of his own to put Central back on top.

The sides continued to trade blows, this time is was Chris Hyde and Blake Gallen combining for Macquarie.

In a fitting moment, second-rower Josh Schmiedel scored a try in his 100th first grade game.

Anderson grabbed a late double for Central, but Macquarie had done just enough.
