Hunter Water has released a series of gruesome photos of drain debris to remind people not to flush wet wipes down the toilet.
One photo shows a crane holding a mass of congealed matter pulled from a drain in Eleebana.
A spokesperson for Hunter Water says wet wipes account for about 80% of all sewer blockages in the Hunter Water’s system.
The company says the products may be advertised as flushable, but they often don’t break down in the sewer system like toilet paper and can cause blockages and overflows into creeks, rivers and even streets.
