PORT STEPHENS COUNCIL DISPUTES CLAIMS EPA ORDERED SOIL CLEAN UP

Port Stephens Council has hit back at reports it’s been told to clean up a load of contaminated soil, dumped at Salt Ash Oval.
Council says the soil is not contaminated, nor has it been ordered by the Environment Protection Authority to remove it.
The EPA has confirmed it became aware of alleged dumping at the site in October last year, and was working with council to resolve the issue.
On Tuesday, council applied to use the dirt for a BMX track.
The EPA says it’s considering the request as part of a wider investigation.
