NEWCASTLE BOAT OWNER HITS STRIFE AT BYRON BAY

A routine trip to bring a boat from Queensland to Newcastle has been anything but that for two Newcastle men.

Michael Hadlow was skippering his mono hull vessel to Newcastle from Queensland when he got into trouble off Byron Bay.

The boat washed up on Byron Bay’s Main Beach last night, after Mr Hadlow had sought shelter near Byron Bay.

The boat was deemed too damaged to be taken back out to sea, so an excavator was brought in. A crane was then used to put the boat on to a truck which took it to Ballina slipway for repairs.

Mr Hadlow says the journey south will resume once the vessel is repaired.
