Homes are still without power in the Hunter and Central Coast regions, following severe overnight storms.
Streets in Berkeley Vale, on the Central Coast, were littered with fallen trees and power lines cut off roads and driveways.
As the cell moved north to Newcastle coastal lightning strikes were captured by photographers.
But the storm also cut power to thousands of homes in the area, crews at Ausgrid are making good progress restoring power in the Hunter with about 700 customers still without power around Cardiff, Elermore Vale & Medowie.
The rain is expected to continue throughout the weekend.
