An anti-coal seam gas group is taking legal action against the state government and energy giant Santos, over the approval of a water treatment facility in the Pilliga.
‘People for the Plains’ believes the authorisation, made in August is invalid, because the facility should have been considered separately to CSG exploration works.
But Santos’ New South Wales General Manager Peter Mitchley says the assessment process was carried out under relevant guidelines and that the facility poses little risk to the environment.
A hearing date for next year, will be set on December 18.
