GRAFTON GAOL COULD SOON ACCEPT MORE INMATES

The Public Service Association and Corrective Services is currently finalising arrangements to reopen a further 86 beds at Grafton gaol.

It comes after the prison accepted non-remand prisoners in June, while a new facility is being constructed.

It follows a campaign by the PSA after the gaol was downgraded to a remand centre in 2012, which saw almost 100 locals out of work.

The PSA says it will not only be a win for the community and economy, but will help ease overcrowding in the prison system.
