They play an integral part in keeping us safe, and today Surf Life Saving clubs around the Hunter threw open their doors as part of the fourth annual statewide open day.
While the weather was less than ideal, it didn’t stop youngsters from enjoying a range of activities.
In Newcastle, experienced life savers also showed off their skills, in simulated rescues.
