A 26-year-old Mount Olive man has died and four of his friends have been injured, in a single vehicle crash near Maitland overnight.
The group was travelling on Maitland Vale Road in a Range Rover at about 11.15pm, before it left the road on a right hand bend and hit a tree.
One of the occupants was thrown from the car on impact, while the driver was trapped inside the wreck for two hours, before being stabilised and flown to John Hunter Hospital.
The other passengers received minor injuries.
