NORTH COAST COMMUNITY MOURNS SURFER

The community of Sawtell has described a man who died while surfing in Indonesia as a quiet and gentle soul, who died doing what he loved.
Ronald Stephen Schneider died on Tuesday after hitting rocks while surfing off the Mentawi Islands in Western Sumatra.
He’d been on a surf trip with his mates
The 54-year-old painter was a well known boardrider in the close-knit communuity of Sawtell.
Local boardriders club president Mark Hodgson says he was deeply loved within the community.
“He has been living in the community since he was a young kid and been part of Sawtell Boardriders for as long as anyone could remember.
“He was one of the first ones at the beach every morning, so he died doing something that he loves and does every day.”
His friends and fellow surfers will take part in a “paddle out” at Sawtell this afternoon.
