More than a hundred Coffs Harbour residents turned out today to help Shearwater Lodge celebrate its 10th anniversary.
The 16 unit accommodation building was set up for cancer patients and their carers by the Rotary Club when a radio therapy unit was established at the Health Campus.
“It’s a home away from home, in fact we’ve had some guests decide to stay at weekends and ever over Easter because they thought it was better than a holiday,” said Shearwater Lodge Chairman Neville Hillenberg.
Management says the lodge may have to be run on a commercial basis at some stage in the future to qualify for higher state government room subsidies.
