As part of Dental Health Week, a Tamworth dentist is warning locals about sports drinks.
Marketed as the best way to maintain hydration while exercising, Doctor Paul Hagley says their consumption has a similar effect on teeth as cola.
The high sugar and acid content leads to the break down of enamel, and could lead to the protective layer having to be reinforced artificially.
“That can potentially be a complicated and expensive business. So, much better to prevent it in the first place.”
