Over the past 65 days, Nobbys weather station near Newcastle has recorded only five that didn’t have a westerly component.
This is connected to the polar vortex, which is a clockwise rotation of east to west winds that rotate around the South Pole.
These winds have been increasing over the years, helping to increase the Antarctic ice sheets.
