The CBD’s old buildings will be receiving a well-earned facelift, with the first of 37 facades now completed.
The works are part of Newcastle Council and Newcastle Now’s Facade Improvement Scheme, offering a price-match to the applicant contributing up to $2000 each for restoration works.
A total funding pool of $120,000 is available, with $60,000 from The City of Newcastle and $60,000 from Newcastle NOW.
Lord Mayor Jeff McCloy joined grant recipient, Anton Rufo, on Hunter street today to celebrate completion of the first restoration.
“It’s important to encourage people to reinvest into the city,” Mr McCloy said.
Round two of the grants opens next week.
