TAREE’S MARTIN BRIDGE MARKS 75 YEARS

Taree’s iconic Martin Bridge will celebrate a huge milestone next month, when the community unites for its 75th Birthday.

The event aims to acknowledge the contribution the monument has made to the town’s history.

“We take it for granted now- it’s just a big old iron you know rusty thing however it bought the community together and we are hoping this event will bring the community together once again,” Organiser Catherine Calvin said.

The bridge will be closed for 20 minutes on the day to allow for a walk and photograph, to replicate the original opening.

Council voted last night to provide assistance with the event.

“It’s a great outcome that’s a fabulous community initiative and we’re really looking forward to supporting the volunteers,” Council’s Donna Hudson said.
