REMEMBERING RICHIE BENAUD: TWO HUNTER CRICKETERS REFLECT

There were reflections on Richie Benaud’s life too in Newcastle from former Australian cricketer Rick McCosker.

And a leg-spinner, who played alongside Benaud for New South Wales, has shared memories of a man he greatly admired.

As the tributes continued to pour in former State and Australian cricketer Bob “Dutchy” Holland offered his thoughts.

“I was very sad to hear of the passing of Ritchie Benaud after such a long illness. He was well known as a great player, an attacking and innovative Australian Captain, later a television commentator and from my point of view a great leg spinner.
When I was young I thought Richie was the ultimate cricketer who was a dashing batsman, a great leg spinner and captain of the team who could decide when he bowled. Ritchie helped me with my leg spin bowling when I had a loss of form and I treasured his advice.
Cricketers around the world will be saddened by the passing of Ritchie Benaud. “
