MINISTER RESPONDS TO LABOR TRANSPORT PROMISE

Read NSW Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian’s response to Labor’s promise of a dedicate Hunter Transport Authority below.
“Labor could not make a decision about Newcastle when they were in government, and today they still don’t have a plan for the future of this great city.
“For 16 years Labor ordered study after study about light rail and the future of the Newcastle rail line, and did nothing. Today all we are hearing is more of the same – at least they are consistent.
“While Labor continues to fight for the do-nothing approach, the Baird Liberal Government is getting on with the job of revitalising Newcastle.
“We are building light rail and connecting the CBD to the foreshore – bringing back jobs, visitors and confidence to benefit the whole region. On top of our strong track record of delivering new and upgraded roads across NSW, we have committed more than $1 billion to deliver vital road projects in the Hunter.
“Experts have already slammed Labor’s plan to install more congestion-inducing level crossings in Newcastle, now Labor is promising projects with no dollar values and making up new layers of transport bureaucracy on the back of an envelope.
“They had no idea about transport when they were in Government and today in Opposition they’re proving nothing has changed.”
