A Gold Coast teenager charged over a trawler fire in Coffs Harbour almost two years ago will soon face trial.
It’s alleged Damien Wheeler, a 19 year old deckhand on Kim Ocean at the time, set fire to the vessel in the marina.
Police say the trawler’s engine then started, causing it to ram into a yacht, which sank soon after.
Damage to the trawler alone has been estimated at $600,000.
Wheeler has waived his right to a committal hearing.
A date for his trial will be set next month.
