SICKENING CYCLING ACCIDENT AT BYRON BAY

Frightening footage has emerged of the moment a cyclist goes head over handlebars.

Riding at 50-kilometres per hour on a freeway in Byron Bay, a small piece of aluminium was all it took to tear his front wheel off.

Remarkably, the rider suffered just cuts and bruises – the same can’t be said for his bike.

  1. What is a bicycle rider doing on a motorway?
    Firstly, cars are travelling at 110km/h, and even doing their speed trials, at 50km/h, debris such as what got this guy unstuck is hard to see. Cars may be able to survive impact with such objects, even if not, there might be some underbody damage, but the driver is still safe. On a bicycle, it’s a different story.

  2. roger, cyclists are allowed on the motorway unless otherwise signposted. That might explain why he’s on the motorway. As for the risks in not seeing debris at that speed, that’s his choice.
