Merewether surfer Ryan Callinan has bounced back from a disappointing trip to South Africa, to progress through his opening round heat at the US Open of Surfing.
Callinan was the dominant surfer in the small, inconsistent conditions.
The 23-year-old is currently ranked 10th on the world qualifying series rankings.
