TINGIRA RESIDENTS UPSET WITH HOUSING APPROVAL

More than 200 Tingira Heights residents today gathered in protest, after the approval of a two-storey social housing development in James Street.

They’ve vowed to up the anti on the state government, for failing to listen to their concerns.

“We’re not going to give up. If this one happens, what’s going to stop them going onto the next thing. We’ve got to show them we’re not going to be steamrolled.”

  1. It is good to see people in our community standing up to those people down in Parliament House. Public Housing is genuinely needed in our area, but not at the expense of those who will use it. The site at Tingira Heights is not even suitable for a childrens playground let alone two storey housing. If The Minister for Housing Mr. Borger thinks we are going to go away he is wrong. The Local Member Matthew Morris needs a swift kick in the behind as well. My Mum & Dad lived in Public housing as did my Brother & four sisters. I wouldn’t want my Mum living at 3-5 James Street Tingira Heights.

  2. Mr Borger so proudly admitted that he himself grew up in public housing. He himself should know, more than any of us,how the environment in which we live can either add or detract from ones quality of life.

Would he want to live in sudstandard, potentially hazardous housing JUST so governement officials can meet a ‘set number’ of units by a ‘due date’?
Would he want to live in an area with no social infrastructure , no space to accomodate a car and no access to public transport?
All government officials (including Mr D Borger) who have visited the Tingira Heights site have gasped in amasement at the total inappropriateness of placing 15 , 2 bedroom units on this site.

Why is this project in its current state going ahead???????

  3. NBN, why did you report this story in this manner? Your camera man and journalist were there for a good 30 to 45 minutes and certainly got the point as to why the residents are protesting; it is a valid protest based on logic not prejudice. Yet you deliberately chose not to report the reason why the group is against the development. Why?
For the record the physical site is completely inappropriate for the construction of anything more than 2 units and not the 14 that will be built there. Further, our local State representative has deliberately and wilfully misled the residents during this entire process in order to derail and our efforts and push this through; hence the total feeling of betrayal and anger by the residents.
Now again, why didn’t this get reported correctly?
