FORMER TOP COP APPEALS SENTENCE

Former Tweed top cop Shane Diehm may spend less time behind bars after his lawyers today appealed the sentence handed to him in September.

Diehm was slapped with a six month sentence after being found guilty of lying to the New South Wales Police Integrity Commission, denying involvement in a drug-fuelled party weekend on the Gold Coast.

His lawyers claim he’s been unfairly made a scapegoat, in an effort to discourage other authority figures from lying to the commission.

The matter’s been adjourned until early next month.
