The Hunter Muslim community welcomed visitors to learn more about its religion at an open day at the Wallsend mosque today.
The move was prompted by the current climate overseas, and a growing focus on jihadist group ISIL.
“The more we know about each other, the more we live in peace and harmony, and that is our target today.”
Volunteers educated members of the public, who also had the chance to experience the traditional style of dress.
