The Casino community has rallied to save Beef Week in the 24 hours since a major sponsor pulled out in protest over rising water costs.
Beef Week organisers were forced to hand back a $10,000 sponsorship cheque to the Northern Cooperative Meat Company.
The Cooperative has withdrawn its support, saying council’s new charges for water usage will cost it an extra $1-million a year.
But the business community has offered support to make up the shortfall.
Organisers expect to announce details of the new sponsors next week.
