WEATHER UPDATE: LUNAR ECLIPSE TIME

There is a large blanket of cloud sitting over Newcastle on this Wednesday afternoon. The good news is this will clear to partly cloudy skies tonight. The bad news is the blanket is slowly moving north and will shut down the chance to see the Lunar Eclipse on parts of the Mid North Coast.

Viewing inland and further north on the northern New South Wales coast and south east Queensland looks pretty good.

The benefit of some cloud can make the eclipse even more intense due to the lining of the clouds reflecting a slight red glow at times.

It is a long process, so be patient if it is blocked by cloud. Most locations should get at least a glimpse as the cloud cover likes to break up at night. The whole process takes a number of hours:

Eclipse starts: 8:15pm
Totality begins: 9:25pm
Maximum eclipse: 9.55pm
Totality ends: 10:25pm
Eclipse ends: 11:35pm.

Tomorrow expect more partly cloudy skies along the coast with only a small, brief, isolated shower or two. More fine weather inland., with light to moderate southerly winds.
