Matt Wilkinson’s title defence at Bells is off to the best possible start – winning his heat over three-time world champion Mick Fanning, and moving straight into round three.
“it was good to get a win it was a slow heat but I kind of stuck to my plan I knew it was going to be slow and it worked out,” he said.
A last minute wave saw Adrian Buchan also move into the third round… Doing just enough to hold out Joel Parkinson.
