Kurri – not Caves Beach – is where you’d usually find the Hunter’s next motocross star, but Toby Stevens is bucking the trend.
The 17-year-old upstaged some of Australia’s best riders on Saturday night, to win the inaugural Shoot Out at Oakburn Park in Tamworth.
“Yeah it feels good. Struggled a bit at the start of the night. Took the track a while to form up, but I got it. Feels good.”
Stevens mainly rides as a hobby.
“Well that was pretty intense that’s for sure. I had a little strategy going from that outside gate cutting over, so I could overtake down the first stretch straight away I think I knocked out seven guys maybe. It’s really intense. Heart rates up for sure”
