Tintenbar’s Tony Brearley has just missed out on winning back-to-back National Litre Sprintcar Championships at Lismore Speedway.
Brearley was the hot favourite for the race and avoided several pile-ups and roll-overs to lead for most of the 40 lap final.
However Toowomba’s David Whell was always hot on his heels, and on the final lap made his winning move.
“It’s going to be a drag race to the end, but David Whell takes the chequered flag.”
“I got up there and thought I had it in the bag, got a bad bounce one of the runs and couldn’t get going.”
Last night’s meet was rained out, bringing down the curtain on this season’s Speedway action.
It kicks off again in November.
