LOVE INVITED TO REJOIN JETTY FORESHORE TALKS

Environmental lobbyist Ashley Love has been invited to rejoin discussions with Coffs Harbour council over the proposed redevelopment of the Jetty foreshore.

It follows reports the 10 million dollar project could be in jeopardy because of the Jetty Action Group’s submission opposing any federal funding for the project.

Mr Love has been boycotting community consultations on the issue but says he will release details of his submission early in the new year.

He’s against the idea of a boardwalk along Jetty beach and other plans for commercial development.

  1. In 1995 Bill Farrell called a public meeting which was held at the Jetty Village shopping centre and was attended by about 1400 Coffs Harbour residents. Having studied Statistics, at some length, an expression of opinion voted on by 1400 people out of a population of 75,000, apparently gives a valid basis of the opinion of the 75,000 people so that the decision can be called ‘statistically significant’. As far as I know, no other such vote has been taken by CHCC.

The decision at that meeting of everybody of the 1400 people present except two people, whose names were recorded, was that there should not be any commercial development east of the actual railway line.

Why is our Council wishing to override that statistically significant decision due to pressure from a small number of developers ?
