Work is set to begin on stage one of the Maitland Levee Project, with council appointing a contractor for the construction.
Stage one includes the refurbishment of High Street, the Heritage Mall space and intersections at Elign and Bourke Streets, including a shared pedestrian zone and stone paving.
The contract with successful tender, Landscape Solutions is valued at $6.7-million.
Work is set to commence in early June and is scheduled to be completed in early 2015.
