MINE IN BREEZA A STEP CLOSER TO REALITY

Shenhua Watermark’s proposal to construct an open cut coal mine in Breeza is a step closer to being approved.

The New South Wales Department of Planning and Environment says it should be approved, providing strict conditions are put in place to minimise its environmental impact.

The project has now been referred to the Independent Planning Assessment Commission for review.

If approved, the mine will provide 1,000 jobs, and unearth 10 million tonnes of coal per year for three decades.

Farmers in the Liverpool Plains district are expected to continue their fight against the proposal.
