The main road into Lennox Head has reopened, with a bushfire ignited by a lightning bolt on Sunday now extinguished.
The Coast Road was closed for several hours last night as firefighters continued to battle the blaze, while 60 people were evacuated from their homes.
They were sent to an evacuation centre at Byron Bay High School, and were able to return home later in the evening.
The fire burned through almost 200 hectares of scrub.
