RESIDENTS WARNED TO PROTECT THEMSELVES AGAINST MOSQUITOES

With the weather heating up, the North Coast Public Health Unit is reminding us to protect ourselves against mosquitoes.

An average of 240 cases of Ross River Virus and Barmah Forest Virus are reported to the unit each year.

“These viruses have symptoms of joint ache, tiredness, muscle pains and the symptoms can go on for months and months.”

To prevent mosquito bites, we’re being warned to avoid being outside before dawn and after dusk without wearing insect repellent, and to wear loose fitting clothing that covers arms and legs.
