WEATHER UPDATE: HOT NIGHT, HOT DAY

Singleton in the heart of the Hunter Valley only dropped to 27 degrees last night making it the hottest December night there in a decade.

Most of northern New South Wales and south-east Queensland was cloud-affected today but it was still a scorcher, hitting temperatures in the low to mid-30s.

Heavy showers developed into scattered storms across the north west, moving over the Ranges and onto the Mid North Coast. A few scattered showers also developed near Newcastle.

The weak southerly change will move in across the Hunter this evening before moving further north overnight, reaching the Northern Rivers tomorrow afternoon. There a convergence will occur and storm development is likely in the afternoon across the Northern Ranges affecting the Northern Rivers and south-east Queensland.

This is an area that is expecting a fairly consistent run of afternoon storms over the next week, with some wet weather spreading further south across the weekend.
