A teenage boy is in a serious condition in a Hunter hospital with the region’s second confirmed case of meningococcal disease this year.
In 2012, there were nine confirmed cases of the disease in the Hunter New England Local Health District.
There were 15 confirmed cases in 2011, 13 in 2010 and 14 in 2009.
