Hunter Valley flash Jack Newman is hoping to defend last year’s stunning victory in the Macksville Gift.
As one of Australia’s oldest professional foot races, the Gift will be run next Saturday, as the headline event for a carnival of activities for the Macksville community.
Jack Newman and his twin brother Tom will be up against Newcastle sprinter Marty Sinclair, who won the event in the previous two years.
The 120-metre race offers a $3,000 first prize.
Organisers say only a wet track would spoil the event.
