B-DOUBLE DRIVER ARRESTED FOLLOWING POLICE CHASE NEAR GRAFTON

A B-double driver has been arrested for driving erratically and allegedly under the influence of drugs on the state’s mid-north coast. Police were called out just after 8pm, following reports of a truck swerving between lines and running over guard posts on the Pacific Highway. Police attempted to stop the 48-year-old male driver at Glenugie, about 20 kilometres from Grafton, however they allege he attempted to run the highway patrol vehicle off the road. Officers followed the vehicle north towards Grafton, where a police truck was positioned to stop southbound vehicles as a precaution. It’s alleged the driver swiped the police truck. The pursuit continued a further 50 kilometres north, before the driver stopped on the Mororo Bridge at Chatsworth Island. Police say he resisted arrest before being taken into custody. MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER OVER SOUTH GRAFTON STABBING

A 33-year-old man has been charged with murder, following a fatal stabbing at South Grafton over the weekend. Officers have been told two men got into an argument at a home on Gardenia Way in the early hours of Saturday morning, with it alleged the 33-year-old stabbed a 28-year-old twice in the abdomen. The man from Eatonsville was flown to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital, where he later died. The accused was arrested nearby, and taken to Grafton Police Station where he was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. His charge was later upgraded to murder.

HORROR SUMMERLAND WAY CRASH LEAVES ONE DEAD & FIVE INJURED

More details have emerged about a horrifying crash near Grafton, which left one man dead and five others in hospital. The crash happened on the Summerland Way at Clifden, around 20 kilometres north of Grafton, just before 3 o’clock on Saturday afternoon. Initial investigations suggest a white sedan crossed onto the wrong side of the road, and collided head on with a northbound 4WD. The male driver of the sedan died at the scene, while his wife, who was the only passenger in the car, was trapped for almost two hours. She was eventually flown to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition. Four people travelling in the 4WD, including two children, were taken to Grafton Hospital for treatment. All four suffered severe shock. The Summerland Way was reopened just before 10 o’clock on Saturday night. (VISION ONLY)

FATAL CRASH NORTH OF GRAFTON

One person is dead and three others are in hospital, following a two-car crash on the Summerland Way, north of Grafton. The accident happened just before 3 o’clock on Saturday afternoon at Clifden – two helicopters among the emergency services called to the scene. A total of six people were involved in the crash. One of the injured was taken to hospital in a serious condition, while two others were reported as being serious but stable. Another two people were uninjured. The Summerland Way remains closed, with motorists advised to use the Pacific Highway. (VISION ONLY)

MAN SHOT BY POLICE AFTER LUNGING AT THEM WITH KNIFE

A man is in a critical condition after being shot by police at a home, west of Grafton. At around 4am, officers were called to the Waterview Heights property, amid concerns for the man’s welfare. When police arrived, the 36-year-old allegedly lunged at them with a knife, and was shot. He was treated at the scene before being flown to Gold Coast University Hospital. A Critical Incident Team will investigate the case.
