Respiratory researcher Professor Phil Hansbro took home the prestigious Award for Research Excellence in the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) 2013 Awards Night.
More than $1.4 million in grant funding accompanied the award.
Professor Hansbro is the leader of the Asthma and Airways Research group for the HMRI.
In other awards, Associate Professor Vanessa McDonald was named the PULSE Early Career Researcher of the Year.
